My Occ Health Record (MOHR) is a versatile platform that securely collects and stores employee health data while transforming static information into real-time insights. With proprietary software, MOHR provides employers and employees 24/7 access to health records, detailed reporting, and business insights, enabling more informed decision-making for individual and collective workforce health.
After 20 years of experience in the health industry, the MOHR team recognised the need for a better way to manage employee health data. The platform was designed to address common industry issues, such as data duplication, human errors, reliance on printed and handwritten assessments, and the need for secure data-sharing across platforms. These improvements contribute to more accurate diagnoses, better tracking of medical trends, and even managing pandemics.
My Occ Health Record was in its MVP stage and required further development and refinement of features to create a comprehensive solution for clients managing employee health data. As the user base grew, concerns around platform resiliency and scalability also needed to be addressed.
Additionally, MOHR aimed to overcome challenges such as:
Eliminating data duplication and human error.
Reducing reliance on manual record-keeping.
Ensuring secure, accessible data-sharing across organisations.
Enhancing compliance and oversight for employers.
The primary objective was to build an industry-first tech platform that empowers employers to understand and manage workforce health while achieving better health outcomes.
The platform needed to:
Provide employers and employees with a secure, central hub for collecting, managing, storing, and analysing employee health data.
Ensure compliance and oversight at all times.
Create a scalable and resilient solution capable of handling increased demand.
Enhance usability and engagement through a refined user interface and streamlined navigation.
As the sole end-to-end designer on this project, I joined My Occ Health Record while it was in the MVP stage. The existing design required restructuring and a visual overhaul to elevate its effectiveness and usability.
My responsibilities included:
Rethinking the user interface while maintaining core functionality.
Implementing a simplified navigation flow and a refined colour palette.
Establishing a clean, minimalistic look with balanced iconography and white space for better information scanning.
Conducting research, wireframing, ideation sketches, and user flow mapping.
Creating interactive prototypes to validate concepts and facilitate user testing.
Designing high-fidelity UI elements aligned with material design principles.
Leading workshops with the managing director and key stakeholders to align design strategies with business objectives.
Collaborating with developers daily to implement the designs effectively.
I worked closely with the Head of Product, Head of Engineering, a Business Analyst, and an international team of software developers, overseeing the project from discovery to a developer-ready handover.
One of the biggest challenges in this project was navigating MOHR's transition from a traditional waterfall development method to an agile methodology. Advocating for user experience design throughout the organisation required consistent communication and alignment across multiple stakeholder levels.
Additionally, working with an offshore international team required bridging cultural differences while managing both design and technical considerations. Ensuring smooth collaboration across time zones and development environments was crucial to the success of the project.
Since its launch in 2020, My Occ Health Record has seen significant growth and adoption, with:
Over 18 company partnerships, including the Australian Football League (AFL).
A steadily increasing user base, with the platform now integrated into the daily workflow of businesses nationwide.
Ongoing iterative updates to improve website functionality and enhance user experience.
MOHR was also recognised in 2020, securing 3rd place in the AFR Most Innovative Health Companies rankings—a testament to the team’s dedication to advancing healthcare innovation and technology.
As demand for digital health solutions continues to rise, My Occ Health Record is well-positioned to provide the most comprehensive suite of services in the occupational health sector. By offering an intuitive, data-driven platform, MOHR empowers businesses to make better health-related decisions, ensuring compliance and efficiency in workforce management.
The team remains committed to improving and expanding the platform, reinforcing its reputation as a leader in digital occupational health solutions.
